Value Pricing
Rather than requiring a retainer or billing by the hour, the Chamberlain Firm offers Value Pricing. This means we set fees based on the value of the work done for you, the client.
How does it work?
Using value pricing, we establish fees before any work is done so you know exactly how much you can expect to pay ahead of time. This allows us to avoid any up front fees and questionable fees that arise from hourly billing.
During the initial consultation, we will discuss basic information about your situation and the goals you wish to accomplish. We will discuss and evaluate the options available to achieve your goals.
Once you decide what option is the best fix for you, we will give you a customized, fixed fee before any work begins. As long as the scope of work does not substantially change due to unexpected circumstances, this fee is what you can expect to pay once the work is completed.
Benefits of Value Pricing
Value pricing encourages open and clear communication between attorney and client. Unlike with hourly billing, you are not “on the clock” every time you make a phone call or send an e-mail. You can feel free to contact us anytime with your questions or concerns and know you won’t be nickel-and-dimed for every response.
Comparison to Hourly Billing
Instead of focusing solely on the value provided to you, hourly billing centers on the attorney. While there is certainly nothing unethical about hourly billing, value pricing has some significant advantages.
Hourly billing rewards inefficiency. Attorney's charge more for putting more time into a matter, regardless if the additional work adds value to you. Instead of providing complete and efficient service to the client, the attorney is rewarded for prolonging the completion of the service.
Hourly billing results in unclear expectations. Forecasting how much you will pay under the hourly billing model is difficult. Usually, you're told the cost will depend on how much time is spent on the matter. Many clients are not familiar with how much work can go into a matter. By discussing what you can expect to pay up front, we avoid any unpleasant surprises when the final bill arrives.
Hourly billing stifles communication. Using an hourly billing model, the client is charged for every communication made with the attorney. The result of this model is discourages communication between the attorney and client. Because communication is stifled, questions go unanswered and concerns are not addressed.
Value pricing doesn’t suffer from these disadvantages. It creates an open flow of communication and an environment where the attorney is only rewarded for meeting your needs. It provides you with an expectation of fees up front without the fear of surprises later. For these reasons, the Chamberlain Firm believe Value Pricing is the best way we can serve you.
